Developmental Play changes
by supporting the adults who care for them.
This new approach to early childhood development emerged from our professional experiences in physiology, psychology, education, therapy, arts and creativity. It builds on proven strategies for children’s cognitive, physical and social development.
It is particularly effective for children with special needs, learning difficulties and trauma.

Play is the language of childhood. It teaches children about their world, how to collaborate, and that they can have impact. And it’s fun. When a child struggles at school or in life, it’s often because they don’t have the right foundations in place. Developmental Play trains you to give children these foundations.
Developmental Play is like a pyramid where each level builds on an earlier one. Ensuring that each level is solid for a child, which may involve going back to rebuild it, is the key to the success of this approach. The Developmental Play training gives you the skills to identify if a child needs support, and exercises and activities to support them.
The Developmental Play Pyramid
The result? You help your children become more confident, happier and healthier, better learners and better friends. And it’s great fun for children and for you.
Developmental Play is associated with the Real Play Coalition, launched in 2018 by the LEGO Foundation, IKEA, National Geographic and Unilever to bring play back into childhood. A report from the World Economic Forum says “We must equip our children with the tools to address and embrace the new realities of tomorrow. To do this, we must allow them to develop through play the skills they need to thrive in the dynamic, challenging economies of tomorrow.”
" I've been working as a clinician for 5 years but only after I started my Developmental Play training do I feel like I'm doing something for my profession- I feel reborn because of Developmental Play" Danielle Fatima Collantes
Our online Academy and our in-person workshops teach you to identify if a child has missed out on a level of play and should go back to it, and then to take them there so they can build from a strong, confident starting point. The courses are suitable for parents/carers and for teachers/clinicians such as childcare workers, teachers and therapists We have more details about our courses on our Learn with us page or go directly and explore the courses on our academy.
The Developmental Play Certified Practitioners training is endorsed by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists.
